Mechanical Problems Stop Good Result in Ligier Sports Prototype for IF Motorsport IF Motorsport found themselves short of a driver for the 6 hour VdeV race at Snetterton and asked Ben if he could fill in and share driving duties with Ivor McCullough for the weekend. It was always going to be tough with so little time in the car before qualifying, with just 2 one-hour test sessions.

The number 2 car struggled for pace in testing, but the team worked hard and found a big setup issue overnight. Given the problem found, the team decided it was better to go to a standard setup for qualifying and hope for the best.

Ben did qualifying and was relieved to find they had solved the problem and were on the pace. He eventually ended up 3rd quickest, 3 tenths off pole, which everyone was happy with given the circumstances. He also managed to keep his number of laps to a minimum to conserve tyres, as qualifying wasn't too important for a 6 hour race, in which tyre wear could be vital.

Ivor started the race and was going well, when just before the first driver change pit stop he had a mechanical issue, which broke the crown wheel and pinion in the gearbox. Despite the teamís best efforts, this meant they had to withdraw the car, without Ben even managing to do any laps in the race.

Ben was upset he couldn't race, but knew it was no ones fault and that these things sometimes happen. "It was obviously disappointing not to even get in the car in the race, especially when given the driver pairing we had, I think we could have challenged for the victory. These things happen though and at least we showed we were competitive in qualifying. I hope I'm able to do more outings in VdeV throughout the year as it's a great championship."
